Chardonnay

A variety of French origin, originally cultivated in the regions Champagne and Burgundy (France), currently spread in different viticulture parts of the world. It is one of the most valuable varieties for the preparation of sparkling wines, table wines and white merged wines.

The grapes are medium-sized and they look like a cut cone, clearly winged and compact. The grains are medium sized, round, yellow-gold, with an average-density peel. The pulp is juicy and sweet, with a simple taste and a more or less strong flavor.

It has an average ripening period. The buds open very early. About 140-145 days pass until the technological ripening of the grapes, with a sugar content not less than 170 g (dm3), at the amount of the active temperatures 2680-2750 ° C.

The vine has a medium vigorous growth. It adapts well to different kinds of soil and climate, provided that moisture is not too excessive. It has an average and regular productivity. When the springs are cut too long and the load is full of buds, the crop significantly increases on the account of its quality.
The variety has an average resistance to the main diseases, but it is less enhanced to the gray rot (Botrinis).

Frost resistance: -24 ° C.

Wines made from Chardonnay varieties are pale yellow with gold sparkles; they taste as the variety and have a delicate aroma, with a good level of acidity and alcohol content.

A brief characteristics of the clones

R8 Chardonnay, Italy

A clone with middle-sized grapes, semi-compact, high and regular harvest. The grains have a specific flavour, which is transmitted to wine, rendering a special delicacy.

VCR4 Chardonnay, Italy
The mutation of the Chardonay variety differs only by the colour of the grains: it is stronger and with with a flavour of Muscat more intense. It can be used very effectively in volume merging of 5-10%.

VCR4 Chardonnay, Italy
It is a clone with a vigorous growth and productivity lower than the standard variety. The wine differs by intensity, finesse and structure. It is an excellent clone for producing the sparkling wines.
