Moldova

Moldova is a variety of table grapes, with a late period of ripening (end of September).
It has are large, round, five-lobby leaves, with an almost full margin, or with not-very-large incisions. There are hairs on lower side of the leaf. The cluster is cylindrical or conical, with an average density and weight of the grains of about 385 g. The biggest of them weigh up to 1 kg. The grains are high (2.5 x 1.9 cm), oval, dark violet, covered with a layer of strong pruina. The peel is usually thick, dense and hard; the pulp is fleshy in consistency and crisp; it has a simple taste.

Moldova is a variety with a vigorous growth, a fact which should be taken into account at the end of the planting scheme. In case of excessive density of the twigs, there is an intensive increase of the vegetative part on the account of the crops. In this case, the grapes become rare, dispersed and relatively small; the grains also decrease and in these conditions the forms of the twigs with long arms and their free placement are welcomed. When the technological processes are necessary to suppress the vegetative growth, which stimulates the grain to ripen and the grapes to improve in their aspect.

The variety prefers warm soil, well insured with food and humidity. The frost resistance is average: -22 ° C. The variety is rather resistant to cryptogamic diseases. Less chemical procession, against other varieties, are required to avoid powdering and manna.

The Moldova grapes have a better commercial aspect; they are transportable and keep their freshness during a long storage in the refrigerator. They also keep for a long time on the twigs, which essentially allows extending the harvest time. This variety has passed the test in all the winemaking regions and significant results were registered everywhere.

It is currently the most widespread table variety of late ripening.
