Niagara wine planting material
Launched in 1868, in Niagara County, New York, as a result of crossing the varieties of Concord and the white Cassidy.
It is met in the north of the United States. It matures one week earlier than the Concord variety. The variety has a hard growth, with average and large leaves, half cleaved, with three or five blades, hanging down.
The leaf knot is open, vaulted, and wide. The flower is hermaphrodite. Bunches - medium to large, conical or cylindrical, often with one wing, dense.
Berries large, oval, light green with a yellowish colour at maturity. The acidity is lower against most of the other American varieties. It matures about 10 days earlier than Concord.
The flesh of the grains has a complex citrus-fruit flavour, with a less strong «strawberry» scent. It has a high yield and resists to mildew. It has a high frost resistance: of -28 C.
Used for preparing fruit white wines, with a strong flavour of Labruska, for dessert, less dry wines. The best wines are made from merging with the neutral varieties. It is sometimes used as table grapes.
