Riesling de Rhine
Riesling of Rhine
It is a variety of German origin, firstly cultivated in the valleys of the Rhine, now widely spread in different countries of Central and Northern Europe.
It is a European variety from the most resistant to frosts. It is used to produce table wines of high quality, wine raw materials for champagne and juices.
The grapes are small and compact; the grains are medium-sized or small and are spherical in shape, yellow, amber, with a thick peel. It has a juicy pulp with a fine flavoured taste.
The variety has a period of average-late ripening average. About 145-150 days pass from the opening of the buds until the technical ripening of the grapes (sugar content not less than 170 g/dm3), at an active temperature of 2,750-2,800 ° C.
The vine has an average or over-average growing vigour, the twig are strong, with not a very regular foliage. The variety prefers the open forms of the vine and average cutting of the springs.
Its resistance to main diseases is average. When placed in the areas with unfavorable conditions, it is exposed to the falling-flower process. It has a high frost resistance (down to -24 ° C).
You can obtain an excellently fine wine from the grapes of the Riesling of Rhine variety, a straw-like yellow, with greenish sparkles and weak-scented flavor. It serves as a good raw material for the sparkling wines.
