About the viticulture nursery of Sauron ltd
Sauron LTD started its activity back in 1996 and has been very successful ever since. Until now, the production related activity has been focusing on such areas as agriculture, including viticulture/horticulture and fruit growing.
Back in 2001, the Company’s main focus becomes the creation of a modern nursery. In 2002 the nursery produced about 1 mln. of woody plants, including rootstock out of viral infections, with 42% efficiency/benefit.
In 2003, the nursery started producing the plantations of rootstock and mother plant. So, there have been planted 16 hectares of mother plant of biological category “Standard” with clones of European productivity - Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay/ PirpL Noir, Cardinal, as well as mother plant of biological category with clones of BxR 101-14, BxR S04, BxR Kober 5BB.
The same year, there have been produced about 0,9 mln of rootstock, including cuttings free of viral infections – that made about 0,45 mln pieces, with a medium efficiency of 46%.
In 2004, the company has been reorganized into a joint stock Moldo-American Company. This was the year when the company started utilizing modern equipment and technologies for the nursery’s production of the planting materials.
In the technical process non traditional approaches, methods and procedures are applied in regards to the growth of the planting materials such as:
- isolation of rootstock and of the cuttings through dressing with a special polymeric pellicle;
- forcing the cuttings without substratum under a special regime, others.
Today’s school in this field promotes the use modern procedures of planting in green house covered with black pellicle, irrigation and fertilization through dropping, as well as supervision of rootstock cuttings. The planting material is kept in optimal temperature and humidity conditions, up to the planting day.
Simultaneously, a technology on producing planting vegetated material is implemented. It is largely implemented in USA as well. This technology permits the growth of the vegetated plants in two months, as well as allows the planting of the vineyard with the planting material a year earlier if compared with the traditional methodology. Thus, winegrowers have the possibility to solicit planting material from the nursery at least 6 months before planting it.
Later, the mother plantation planting followed, but on a much higher quality level. There have been imported a special replication material from USA, of the “baza” biological category, free of viral infections and bacterial cancer, for the production of the vegetated vineyards, which have been afterwards used to plant about 60 hectares of mother plantations, including 13 and hectares of cuttings and 47 hectares of rootstock
Mother plantations have been established with the help of performant clones of the European types such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon, Gammay.
The mother plantations of rootstock have been established with the clones of the BxR 101-14, BxR Kober 5BB, BxR S04.
A new sort of table Flame Seedless type has been planted and tested in the country, as well as a new rootstock for Freedom type, of the American origin. This type raises a great interest, as it does not get affected by nematodes – which cause viral infections and can be planted in the soils infected with nematodes, without any risks for the rootsctock.
The same year, about 12 mln of vinegrapes including rootstock, free of any viral infection, which constitutes 48% average efficiency of the vineyards production.
